Beliefs : Creation : Age of the Earth

I believe that the universe is the creation of an intelligent, loving God.

I believe that the Bible is God's Word; that God is the divine author of the Bible, and thus that it is inerrant.

Therefore, I believe that planet Earth is, as according to the Old Testament, less than 10,000 years old.

Therefore, I do not believe that mankind evolved from apes, nor do I believe that the diverse collection of species is the result of evolution. [more]

A very simple, apparent contradiction of this belief is that the speed of light is observed to be constant, and yet galaxies several hundred thousand light years away are readily visible through a telescope. My understanding of this phenomenon is that when God created the universe in its amazing expanse, he in effect hit the "fast forward" button so as to place it in a state consistent with the laws of physics that govern it.

This implies that I believe the universe to be much older than 10,000 years in terms of logical history, but not in terms of elapsed time. In an abstract sense, the two aren't a whole lot different, but in a physical sense they are in fact very different.
