Human ambitionGenesis chapter 11 tells the story of the tower of Babel. My NIV's commentary says:People are ambitious -- they want to succeed. Genesis portrays humans as so ambitious that they try to compete with, rather than serve, God. This was Adam and Eve's sin (3:5,22), and at Babel people were at it again, in a citywide effort. God frustrated their plans by confusing their language. This casts an interesting light on the study of artificial intelligence... are ambitious computer scientists striving to compete with God? This is a good reality check: There is no competing with God, only striving to comprehend and better appreciate His creation. |
