Rock climbing at the pool
March 29, 2008

What a great idea: A product that allows kids to practice their climbing skills in the pool.

Hunger and physical activity
March 27, 2008

Being a lean guy with a sensitivity to low blood sugar, there have been countless times when I've gotten that sort of sick low blood sugar feeling. Your energy gets sapped, you can't think, you want to lay down, and sometimes there's a mild headache associated with it.

Something I've noticed though, is that if you do exactly the opposite thing, that is, perform some light to moderate physical labour, the feeling starts to subside.

Here's a little theory: Perhaps the energy stores in the muscles begin to activate and populate the blood with blood sugars when physical activity is performed, thereby correcting the low blood sugar state, whereas if you simply relax and continue to perform mental tasks, you're just burning up even more of the little blood sugar you have left.

Just a thought.

Larry hits 100
March 16, 2008

A member of Meredith and I's small group at church will reach his 100th blood donation this June, and is inviting 100 friends to join him in June to celebrate his achievement. Nice work Larry!

I've often thought that giving blood would make for a great thing to do with church friends.
