I know, I'm sick to find this funny December 13, 2006
Yeah, I remember the time I rode my bike down a hill and hit a ramp that had a 60 degree incline. No, it didn't work very well... I smashed my head against my handle bars, flipped my bike, and landed on my back. I don't think I was able to breath for a good 20 seconds.
Ok, where am I going with this?! I saw this on Gizmodo today. Now this is what I call knocking the wind out of yourself. Imagine doing that on national TV? You just have to laugh hearing the commentary afterwards.
Natural language parsing breakthrough? December 13, 2006
I saw this link on Digg today. The Israeli company, Linguistic Agents, claims to have made a "golden fleece" breakthrough in natural language parsing. I'm fascinated, and yet somewhat sceptical at the same time. Details are hard to come by. I've sent them an email requesting a demo of their software, so we'll see if they reply.
Update: I've had a brief look at this and I have mixed feelings. I think it's potentially quite a useful tool that could be used to create some intelligent applications, but simply breaking a sentence into nouns and verbs and attaching some singular/plural attributes to them is a relatively small step towards a truely intelligent human/computer interface. My username/password isn't working at the moment so hopefully I'll be able to spend some more time with this thing.
Pepsi Xbox 360 December 11, 2006
To my suprise, Canada Post arrived on Saturday with the Xbox 360 I won in this years "Win Every Hour" contest. (Apparently they work 7 days a week in December!) I'll admit, I did quite the happy dance! Looks like we'll be selling it on eBay and getting a video camera instead.
Just like last year, the game that Pepsi advertised as being included with the system wasn't available in time, so they included a substitute game (PGR this time around) and have promised to send Forza Motorsport 2 when it's ready in 2007. Bonus! :)
