Same place different time
December 2, 2006

Today we were in Toronto for Meredith to write her CFA level 1 exam. During the afternoon session, I went for a jog along the Toronto waterfront. As I was following the trail, I had a flash back to last May when our group of four guys were biking from Waterloo to Ottawa and were cycling along that very same path. I had this mental picture of being there on both accounts... jogging along the path while watching myself cycle past. It was strange to feel so connected to that moment even though separated by time and season.

From The Ground Up
December 2, 2006

I've finally finished reading From The Ground Up, the text for the National Flyer's Academy ground school course I took this summer/fall. It feels great to finally be done -- 8 pages per hour makes for one very long read!

Next up is learning MS Flight Simulator X and looking forward to flying lessons in the spring!

"Anyone can dunk"
November 21, 2006

Today I read an exciting story in the KW Record. The article tells the story of a 30 year old guy who has always had a dream of being able to dunk a basketball. After working with a trainer by the name of Gil Thomas for two months, he had achieved his goal and amazed his friends. "Everyone was kind of shocked," Jara recalls. "They were giving me high-fives, saying, 'I can't believe you just did that. I give you props, it was pretty... amazing.'" Gil says that he believes anyone can dunk if they train right and are willing to work hard. Genetics has nothing to do with it. "Anybody can dunk a ball," Thomas says, "if you train correctly for it."
