People are always talking about making lists of adventurous things they'd like to accomplish during their lifetime. Here's my list, and what follows are notes about what I'm currently up to.
Hand go boomDecember 22, 2007
I've said it before, I'll say it again: Injuries suck. On Dec 13th I was playing basketball with some friends when I caught my finger on a guy as I was running past him and my ring finger got bent back past 90 degrees until it made a significant "pop". What I ended up with is basically a sprained hand and a useless finger... it took a week before I was able to type with my left hand, but it's looking like it will be another couple of weeks before I'm able to use my hand for any kind of exercise.
So after many months of steady progress towards reaching my goal of 100 pushups, this will be a significant set back. I wonder how much progress I'll lose over these three weeks and how quickly I'll be able to get back into it.
MemorizingOctober 1, 2007
Now that I've managed to get all of my extended family's birthdays and anniversaries (well ok, I still seem to be missing a few on the Green side), I'm working on memorizing them. The hope is that once they're all crammed in my head, I will know what dates are coming up, and that will be cause for thinking about those people and wondering what they're up to. And there's something about memorization that I love :) A couple Saturdays ago while I was too lazy to get out of bed I worked on learning the Bigham side and within an hour I had it. Not bad!
Rapberry jamJuly 21, 2007
When I was 10 I had the opportunity of staying with my grandma and grandpa Bigham for a week or two while my parents vacationed in Florida. I remember that my dear grandmother would always have the kitchen tidy and the breakfast table set before bed. The next morning, we would gather at the little round table, often covered with a colourful table cloth, for breakfast. My grandma Bigham's jams were a delight. Her tart, sweet, raspberry freezer jam was my favorite.
So this weekend, while Meredith was away in Ottawa, I decided I'd make some raspberry jam for the first time. I grabbed my back pack, a couple 1-pint cartons, and headed off on my bike to
Nauman's.
It was a perfect day for picking, and I enjoyed the peace and quiet of the raspberry patch for half an hour, sometimes standing bent over, other times sitting in the grass peering into the foliage to see if there were any berries I had missed. A couple times I bumped my carton and I imagined how horrified you'd be if you knocked it over. On the other side of the row was a elderly couple that reminded me of my grandparents... it's pretty neat to be blessed with so many fond memories.
