I was thinking recently and decided I wanted to add a section to my website to blog about issues of church and faith. It's interesting to consider what role the Internet might have in the lives of today's and tomorrow's young people -- could it be a catalyst for encouraging kids to explore and share their faith?
Human ambitionJune 17, 2008
Genesis chapter 11 tells the story of the tower of Babel. My NIV's commentary says:
People are ambitious -- they want to succeed. Genesis portrays humans as so ambitious that they try to compete with, rather than serve, God. This was Adam and Eve's sin (3:5,22), and at Babel people were at it again, in a citywide effort. God frustrated their plans by confusing their language. This casts an interesting light on the study of artificial intelligence... are ambitious computer scientists striving to compete with God?
This is a good reality check: There is no competing with God, only striving to comprehend and better appreciate His creation.
Interesting quote about the importance of "you"June 6, 2008
I read this interesting quote on a friend's Facebook today:
There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action and because there is only one of you in all of time this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. It is not your business to determine how good it is, nor how valuable, nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly, to keep the channel open.I think this is a great idea stated very well.
Started: Start and end my day with prayer each day for a yearJune 2, 2008
Prayer is something I often struggle with. Not because it's hard, but because I never seem to prioritize it very well among the other things of life. I guess that's where the term
spritual discipline comes from. Hopefully this will be a year of growth. I've paired this goal with reading through the Bible in a year.
